Great Chicago Apartments, LLC (formerly George Ellison Management Co.) was started in 1988 with the purchase of a single, vintage six-flat in Andersonville. We have enjoyed fifteen years of controlled, steady growth. We still own and manage only 50 apartments. Our properties have been carefully chosen with large size being a major criterion. Renovations are performed with great care. Vintage details are preserved. Essentials are upgraded for a comfortable home of today. Original brass hardware is restored to a beautiful lacquered finish. Unpainted woodwork is refinished, saving natural wood beauty. Hardwood floors are sanded and refinished. Assets of each apartment are maximized to maintain vintage charm. Electrical service is upgraded. Kitchens are fitted with new cabinets and appliances, including dishwashers. Windows are currently being fitted with plantation style blinds. Previous restorations fitted mini-blinds. Each building has its own history. All units are beautifully fitted with conveniences you find in today's homes. These special buildings are located on quiet, tree-lined side streets, yet are convenient to shopping areas and transportation.
Our inventory includes many different size apartments, ranging from a 620 square foot studio, to a 3,000 square foot, ten-room, three-bathroom grande maison. Our most popular units have two bedrooms with one bath, or three bedrooms with two baths. All apartments have a formal dining room (except the studio). Monthly rent includes gas steam heat and water. Heat is controlled electronically with sensors on each floor to keep a building at an appropriate temperature all twenty-four hours daily. A large basement storage locker provides additional storage space which you can secure. Garages or parking spaces are available at very competitive rates. Some apartments contain in-unit laundry equipment. Most properties offer coin-operated basement laundry facilities. Several units have central air conditioning, plus elegant granite or marble kitchens and baths. Common public spaces are pleasant with quality carpeting and paint; some have marble walls and steps; some have murals; some have sky-lit staircases. Our busy summer gardener keeps attractive, landscaped gardens growing. Residents are encouraged to participate with planting care, or just enjoyment.
